the list
the list. yes, i’ve made another one.
here it is:
be a better wife:
yes, i said that. i have a marriage that has been literally brought out of the ashes. i have concentrated far too long on what someone else can do, or has done, or will do, or might do — to me, for me, at me — and i really and truly want to be a better wife in every aspect. i believe that my attitude...

loving jesus -- is it christmas?
Is loving Jesus represented in what we call Christmas? I have to wonder if we’ve really confused the two. I have. I want to hold on to the idea that I’m loving Jesus while celebrating Christmas — but part of my celebration is far too selfish for that to be true. Something is lost for me in the cultural demand (and competition) for gift giving and gift receiving. We’ve...

what are your guiding principles
Where are you coming from? Here are three guiding principles for KidShine:
(1) It’s all about the kids. We focus on the kids. The preparation has been done, the planning is finished. When we’re with the kids — we want them to have our FULL attention. They are fun, funny, important (see #2), and we love working with them. We want that to be reflected in our attitudes and...
stick with it
I was reading this morning about Hezekiah (2 Chronicles 29) — he was 25 years old when he began his reign as king. He REVERSED what his father did (Ahaz had shut the doors of the temple and stopped following God). What kind of childhood had Hezekiah had? It’s interesting that he was strong enough to reverse what his father had done. That would have taken a lot of strength of...

wisdom literature
The message this morning was from a part of scripture called wisdom literature. I really liked hearing the distinctive differences (thank you Dave Desforge and Grace Church) — so many of us read the bible with a very “thin” lens — unaware of the context(s), the history, the parts. It was so good to hear from leadership the differences — we can’t read the book...
Shine
Am I really shining? If I am several things will be evident. First there will be illumination — making a way in front of me and behind me that others can see. Secondly it won’t be easily hidden — if at all. Light SHINES in the dark. Thirdly light attracts a lot of things and not all of them are pleasant. Bugs go to the light — but the light doesn’t go out. ...
